Jack Dempsey Melvin, 72, died August 5, 2011, at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Dempsey was born February 16, 1939, in Westgreen, Ga., to Kiler and Annie Lee Merritt Melvin.

But most of all he loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He and Lois celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 11, 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; son, Michael (Irena); daughter, Karen Michelle; his brother, Zenas (Ozie) Merritt; and two grandsons, Kiler and Everett; many nieces and nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.

The family received friends at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, on Monday, August 8, 2011 starting at 10 a.m. with his funeral services being held at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Forest Meadows Memorial Park West.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association.
