Norbert B. Ward, 89, passed away at the Gainesville VA Medical Center on Oct. 19, 2013. Mr. Ward served as an Army medic during World War II. He was born in Paintsville, Ky., on November 21, 1923 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

He resided in Nicholasville, Ky., where he worked as an accountant until his retirement. He married Margaret Jean Blackford and they moved to Alachua, Fla., in 2006. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St. Madeleine Catholic Church in High Springs, Fla. His interests included gardening, genealogy, bell ringing choir, and playing bingo with friends at the Cleather Hathcock Community Center in Alachua.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; brother, John P. Ward (Madeleine) of Nicholasville; sister, Charlotte Gallagher (Bernard) of Beltsville, Md., as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren, Bill Blackford, Linda Terrel, Rita Pasmore, Roger Blackford, Janice Moser and their children.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at 4 p.m. at St. Madeleine Catholic Church, 17155 NW U.S. Highway 441, High Springs, Fla., with Fr. Sebastian K. George as celebrant. A reception will follow.
