Mary Helen Hindery, of Alachua, passed away peacefully at NFRMC on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, from complications with pneumonia. Mary was born Nov. 21, 1959 at Alachua General Hospital to Eleonore "Honey" Sykes Hindery and Lucian J. “Lu” Hindery. She was predeceased by her father, former Alachua County Sheriff L. J. “Lu” Hindery. She is survived by her mother, Eleonore “Honey” Sykes Hindery; brothers Mike and Dan (Jane) Hindery; niece Dana (Jeff) Wilkins; nephew Louis Hindery; great niece Mayson Wilkins; great nephew Grady Wilkins; Aunt Billie Bob Sykes; and cousins Susan, Pat, Chip, and Robert.

Mary lived with her family on their beautiful farm in Alachua. Mary was able to move in to a group home through the ARC of Alachua County two years ago, and enjoyed the many activities they provided. She has been a very active member of the ARC of Alachua County since its beginnings. Mary also enjoyed collecting aluminum tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, where she collected more than 60 gallons of tabs! Mary was an acolyte for many years at both St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church and Christ Anglican Fellowship, both in High Springs. Most important of all, Mary was a "Huge Gator Fan." She was a football season ticket holder for more than 30 years.

Graveside services were held at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua, on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ARC of Alachua, 3303 NW 83rd St., Gainesville, FL 32606, or to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
