W - Obit - LARRY SPRALDINGLarry “Bubba” Spralding, 54, of Alachua passed away on Feb. 7, 2014, at his residence. He is the son of Mae Eva Spralding and the late Rand “Big Rand” Spralding, Sr. Sister, Patricia “Randella” Spralding also preceded him in death.

Larry was a 1977 graduate of Santa Fe High School and was employed by the School Board of Alachua County as a bus driver from 1983- 2013.

He leaves to mourn his passing: a loving mother, Mae Eva Spralding; siblings, Regina Spralding, Rand Spralding, Jr. and Melvin Spralding all of Alachua; Jimmy Spralding, Gainesville; Deborah S. Smith, Raiford and Elaine H. Daniels, Lake Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many many friends.

Visitation will he held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2015 from 6 – 7 p.m. at A. Jerome Brown Funeral Home, 1560 NW 1st Ave. (386-454-1110) High Springs. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Female Protective Temple, 12610 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606.

Eletha Lee Renfroe Malphurs, age 96 of Alachua, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. She was born Jan. 28, 1918 in Bradford County, Fla., to Paul and Loca Parrish Renfroe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Malphurs, in 1987.

Mrs. Malphurs is survived by her children, Bobby (Judy) Malphurs, Billy (Sharon) Malphurs, Linda Kay (Virgil) Dougherty; grandchildren, Kurt (Lisa) Malphurs, Kristy Hart, Jonathan (Melissa) Dougherty, Heather (Thomas) Moore, Jennifer Black, Christopher Malphurs, Ashley Malphurs; great-grandchildren, Megan Malphurs, Rebecca and David Hart, Gunnar and Grant Dougherty, Trey and Maddox Moore, Ryleigh Black; brother, Reamer (Mildred) Renfroe; sisters, Ella Mae (Jim) Willis, Dorothy Clyatt and Loca McDavid.

Mrs. Malphurs was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Alachua.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Alachua with Pastor Lamar Albritton and Reamer Renfroe officiating. Interment will follow in Elzey Chapel Cemetery in Worthington Springs, Fla. The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Gainesville, Fla. Arlene C. Groner Watson, 68, High Springs resident, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at Gainesville Health Care Center. She was a native of Catskill, N.Y., having moved to High Springs in 2005 from West Palm Beach, Fla.

Survivors include former husbands Louis Groner, Sr. and Randy Watson; son, Louis Groner, High Springs; daughter, Kimberly (John) Turner, Fort White, Fla.; sisters Diane White of New York and Carole Mesoln of Nabathy, N.Y.; granddaughters, Ashley Turner and Deanna Groner; great-granddaughter Sophie and grandson Jason Groner.

Arrangements were under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs.

Mary (Marcy) Marceline Wagner

In the middle of WWII a beautiful babe was born. Mary Marceline Wagner, better known as Marcy, started the journey of her life in Williamsville, Mo., on June 18, 1944.

Marcy was a mother, daughter, sister, granny, friend, songwriter and problem solver. She was a master of thread arts, an avid book reader, a professional seamstress and porcelain doll maker, a party goer and, according to her children, the best cook and fudge maker. Marcy had a wonderful sense of humor; she was always ready for a new adventure. Her colorful and sparkling personality was loved by all.

Children lovingly left behind are Billie Jo Benedict of High Springs, Fla., Tony Ray Benedict of Elkhart, Ind., Scott E. Benedict of New York and Denise Ellen Benedict of Elkhart, Ind. Marcy is also survived by her siblings, Betty H. James of Texas, Thomas G. Wagner of Florida, Audrey Butler of Virginia, Lena Rosas of Texas, John W. Wagner of Indiana, Wanda G. Wagner of Indiana, Don W. Wagner of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and her daughter, Sherrie Lee Benedict on Jan. 22, 1974.

There will be a Celebration of Life in the High Springs New Century Woman's Club at 40 NW 1st Avenue, High Springs. on Feb. 8, 2014, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectively requests memorial contributions be made in Marcy's name to The High Springs New Century Woman's Club, PO Box 1154, High Springs, FL 32655.

Virginia D. Batt, 89, High Spring, Fla., resident for 19 years passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church near the Newberry/Trenton area. She was a native of Newberry, Fla; daughter of the lade Hudson Davis and Josephine Suggs Davis and widow of the late Richard A. Batt.

Survivors include sons, Benjamin F. Griffis, Jr., and Joseph Griffis, both of Orlando; three daughters, Judy White of Orlando, Gail Wilkerson of Micanopy and Charlotte Dever of Fort White, Fla.; one brother, Bryant D. Davis of San Diego, Calf.; one sister, Cora Mae Grace of High Springs, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Moody officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs, Fla.; 386-454-2444.
