GAINESVILLE – Golfers will assemble on Friday, Oct. 28 at Haile Plantation to celebrate the life of Nick Oelrich and his precious gift to more than 108 recipients as an organ and tissue donor.

The tournament is hosted annually by Nick’s father, State Senator Steve Oelrich, and raises funds for transplant advocacy and programs.  The Shands Pediatric Transplant Unit is the beneficiary of the tournament.

“These funds are being used to support the needs of the children and families of organ transplants,” said Oelrich.  “In previous years, we’ve also put thousands of dollars into advocacy programs geared toward raising public awareness about organ donation.  So many families are affected by an organ and tissue donation.  It is just a tremendously wonderful, selfless thing to do and it can truly save lives.”

Among the many sponsors of the tournament are RTI-Biologics, AvMed, Southeast Tissue Alliance and GRU.  Persons interested in participating in the tournament or making donations may contact the Office of Senator Oelrich at 352-375-3555.
