W - SFHS Kirby Baseball DSCF7343 copyFlanked by his parents and brother, Kirby Snead (center) celebrated his recent acceptance of an offer to join the University of Florida baseball team. Snead was joined Friday by a standing room only crowd of friends, family, teammates and coaches in the Santa Fe High School cafeteria.

A current senior at Santa Fe High School, Snead is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed pitcher and was a first-team all-area selection last season at Santa Fe. He was 5-2 as a junior last spring with a 1.52 ERA, striking out 68 batters in 59.1 innings pitched.

Last season, Snead pitched Santa Fe to its first regional playoff victory since 2003. He threw six shutout innings in the Raiders' 5-0 win over Ocala Trinity Catholic in a Class 4A, Region 2 quarterfinal.

Snead carries at 3.9 GPA.
