Flanked by his parents and brother, Kirby Snead (center) celebrated his recent acceptance of an offer to join the University of Florida baseball team. Snead was joined Friday by a standing room only crowd of friends, family, teammates and coaches in the Santa Fe High School cafeteria.
A current senior at Santa Fe High School, Snead is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed pitcher and was a first-team all-area selection last season at Santa Fe. He was 5-2 as a junior last spring with a 1.52 ERA, striking out 68 batters in 59.1 innings pitched.
Last season, Snead pitched Santa Fe to its first regional playoff victory since 2003. He threw six shutout innings in the Raiders' 5-0 win over Ocala Trinity Catholic in a Class 4A, Region 2 quarterfinal.
Snead carries at 3.9 GPA.
