GAINESVILLE – Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and several local organizations including military agencies will present the Benjamin O. Davis Award at the 4th Annual Colonel Charles D. Young Veterans Day Breakfast to Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient Tillman Williams and Charles Chestnut III. Major General David Kratzer (Ret) and Command Sergeant Leon Caffie (Ret) will preside over the Purple Heart presentation.
The Brothers of the Beta Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., service, religious, social and civic organizations and military and veteran organizations will sponsor the 4th Annual Colonel Charles D. Young Veterans Day Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. at the MLK Center located on 1028 NE 14th Street Gainesville, Fla.
The ceremony will include stories of military experiences in peacetime and wartime including World War II; Korean War; Vietnam Conflict; Operations Just Cause in Panama; Operation Desert Shield and Storm in Iraq; Iraqi Freedom and other military related stories. This year’s event will also feature a Moment in History - The Black Soldier in the Korean War.
Representatives from the local Veterans Office will also provide attendees with information about the many resources offered. A Veterans Global “Where We Have Been” map board will be available so that veterans can show where in the world they served their country.
This breakfast is being held to express community appreciation for the sacrifice that veterans have made.
