Cecilia Sumner passed away on Jan. 3, 2014 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on July 20, 1941. She grew up in Greenville, Fla. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Emerson and husband, Greg; Marsha Barnard and husband, Tom; Melinda New and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Emily Presnell and husband, Trey; Hannah Emerson, Sumner Barnard, Cooper Barnard, Jackson Ramer, Justin Ramer, and Hollie New. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Bill Sumner, her mother and father, Lewis and Lorena O’Steen, and her brother, Dennis O’Steen.

She worked for more than 30 years in financial services. Cecilia and her husband Bill raised their three girls in Gainesville, Fla. In 1985 a job promotion took them to Roswell, Ga. They moved back to Florida after retirement in 1997 and settled in High Springs. She was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of High Springs. Mostly, Cecilia will be remembered as a doting mother and grandmother that enjoyed time with her family above all else. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church of High Springs with her nephew Pastor Paul O’Steen officiating. Interment followed at High Springs Cemetery. The family received friends from 3 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Evans-Carter Funeral Home.

Mary Lucy McKinney, 82, of Newberry, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at UF Health in Gainesville. Mary was born in Newberry, Fla., to Simon and Daisy Hodge and spent most of her life there. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by nine children; Deborah (Emil) Hodge, Eugene McKenzie, Vicky (Mitchell) Bryant, Carol Colson, Brenda Harris, Jack McKenzie, Gary (Angie) McKenzie, Dee Dee (Joey) Baker and Sara (John) Montgomery, 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Jack McKenzie and Harry McKinney. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 149 since 1948. Lucy was known and loved by many people in Newberry. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at Union Baptist Church

Francine Johnson Jernigan, 59, of Alachua, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at home. Francine was born in Fairfax County, Va., to Wilton and Betty Johnson, and moved to Alachua from Bronson, Fla., 23 years ago. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Gainesville, and a volunteer at Al’z Place and Shands waiting room and surgery recovery. Francine is survived by her husband of 23 years, Robert Jernigan, daughter Angi (Tom) Falzoi of Tallahassee, Fla., two grandchildren Ian and Kelsey, brother Steven (Patricia) Johnson of Gainesville, sisters Betsy (Steve) Gabbard of Hawthorne, Fla., Terry Ann Johnson of Texas, and Jeannie (Donnie) Van Wie of Gainesville.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Milam Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville. Burial will follow in Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua.

David Venson Hollingsworth, 73, of High Springs, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Hollingsworth was born in Chiefland, Fla., to the late Ezra Venson and Mae Green Hollingsworth and moved to High Springs from Ft. White, Fla., in 1950.

He loved playing poker, fishing and hunting with his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Deal Hollingsworth of High Springs; sister, Linda H. Sodek of Gainesville, Fla., brothers Gene (Sheila) Hollingsworth and Jerry (Sandra) Hollingsworth of High Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home, 220 N. Main Street, High Springs, FL 32643.

Harriett Ginger Rice, 65, longtime resident of High Springs, Fla., passed away Dec. 11, 2013 at E.T. York Care Center. She was a member of Spring Ridge First Church of God and active in the work of the church. She was a registered nurse retired from Lake City Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Geraldine Powers.

She is survived by her husband of 47 ½ years, Joe Rice of High Springs; son, Paul (Lisa) Rice of Ocala; daughters, Renee (Dean) Welton and Rhonda (Shelby) Boyette both of High Springs; brother, Steve (Kathy) Powers of Fort White; sisters, Jean Bailey, Cynthia (Larry) Osteen, Bonnie (Russell) Osteen all of Fort White; and grandchildren, Katie, Jarred, Madison, Matthew, Porter, Emma and Kinley.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15 at Spring Ridge First Church of God. Interment will follow at the Spring Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Spring Ridge First Church of God.
